Innovation ties these two acts together in our quest to find the greatest metal album released so far in the 21st century. Both Slayer and the Dillinger Escape Plan have created works which have busted genres wide open and blew minds, but who will move on beyond Round 2 in March Metal Madness 2014?

In a terrifying coincidence, Slayer released 'God Hates Us All' on Sept. 11, 2001. Beyond that fact, the anti-religious thrash album contains some of Slayer's most powerful tracks. 'Disciple,' 'Bloodline' and others bring the hellish nature of Slayer's work. The album is arguably Slayer's best disc of the 21st century, easily beating Pig Destroyer's 'Terrifyer' in Round 1, but will it advance into the quarterfinals?

After creating an album like 'Calculating Infinity,' the continuation of the Dillinger Escape Plan needed to be masterful. Luckily, the experimental band kept concocting audio violence with constant progression. In 2007, 'Ire Works' was unleashed to massive acclaim with tracks such as 'Fix Your Face,' 'Black Bubblegum' and 'Milk Lizard.' After taking down Converge in Round 1, can DEP defeat the mighty Slayer?
