Can the new guard beat the old guard? That's the question in this 2013 March Metal Madness Mosh Pit Region Round 2 matchup featuring Slipknot's superb self-titled 1999 release against Megadeth's 1990 classic, 'Rust in Peace.'

On one side, you've got Slipknot who have to consider themselves lucky escaping the first round by the slimmest of margins on Exodus' 'Bonded by Blood.' Their matchup went down to the wire, with the band capturing 50.34 percent of the vote to advance. But the self-titled Slipknot album is definitely worthy of moving on. 'Wait and Bleed,' 'Spit It Out' and 'Surfacing' helped put the band on the map and gave metal a new face (or mask) as we prepared to enter the 21st century.

Their opponent? It's one of metal's most recognizable acts -- Megadeth! The band's stellar 'Rust in Peace' bested their pals and recent tourmates Testament and their album 'The Legacy' with 86 percent of the vote. Will they dominate again? With tracks like 'Holy Wars … The Punishment Due' and 'Hangar 18,' they'll definitely try. Add in their Grammy nomination for the latter track and there's definitely some serious respect for this album.

So who's got your vote to advance in the fight to determine the best metal album of all-time? Will it be Slipknot's self-titled effort or Megadeth's 'Rust in Peace' advancing to the quarterfinals. Place your vote in the poll below.

(This poll will end on Monday, March 25 at 11:59 PM EST. Fans are able to vote once per hour, so keep coming back to make sure your favorite album wins!)
