Screw the WWE or Ring of Honor! Smashing Pumpkins' fearless leader, the chrome-domed alt rock antihero Billy Corgan, is planning to launch Resistance Pro Wrestling, his very own wrestling promotion company! He will serve as the "creative director" of this endeavor and if you think about his extensive and beloved catalog, well, it's a given that he is incredibly creatively-minded and this could be quite an satisfying experiment for him.

Corgan appeared on FOX News in Chicago late last week to share the details of this venture. He said, "I've been involved sort of behind the scenes with pro wrestling for about a decade and made a lot of friends in the business," he said. "It's a very insular business and it's a long story, but I essentially got involved with some brothers who had a wrestling promotion. We decided to form our own promotion and we're going to try to bring back to the glory days." Long absent are the glory days of wrestling, which has morphed into "sports entertainment" as opposed to an actual competitive sport, so we have faith in Corgan for his ability to restore it to its heyday!

As creative director, Corgan will oversee the storylines and is aiming to keep things plot-driven, just like pro wrestling of yore. Pro wrestling is essentially the equivalent of soap operas for dudes and iconic scenes of Hulk Hogan tearing off his "American Made" muscle shirt or George 'The Animal' Steele chomping on the turnbuckle mid-match took precedence over the proper execution of figure-four leg locks, full nelsons and Boston crabs! Corgan admitted that he and his partners are looking to be a bit more old-school.

In addition to providing top-level, well-scripted entertainment, Corgan will also use this as a platform for good and try raise awareness about prevalent sports injuries like concussions.

Resistance Pro's first wrestling event takes place Nov. 25 at Excalibur in Chicago
