The Smashing Pumpkins have announced plans for a 12-date U.S. fall tour in advance of their next album, ‘Oceania,’ which is due in early 2012. The trek starts rolling with an Oct. 5 gig in Los Angeles and comes to a conclusion Oct. 22 in Philadelphia, with an Oct. 14 stop in frontman Billy Corgan's hometown of Chicago among other dates on the itinerary.

Fancy Space People and Light FM (the band current SP bassist Nicole Fiorentino was in before joining the Pumpkins) have signed on to open all dates of the trek. The Pumpkins also have "a big year of touring" in the works for 2012, according to the press release announcing the fall dates.

The Pumpkins currently are wrapping up work on ‘Oceania,’ their first full-length album of new material since 2007’s ‘Zeitgeist.’ It is the also the first to feature new drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Fiorentino, who joined Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder in the Pumpkins in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Corgan calls ‘Oceania’ an "album within an album" as it's part of the band’s ongoing 44-song epic ‘Teargarden by Kaleidyscope’ project.

Meanwhile, Corgan will make a rare personal appearance Saturday at Chicago's Comic Con convention, where he will be signing autographs for free to promote his new position as creative director of the brand new Resistance Pro professional wrestling promotion.

In other Pumpkins news, the band will have a track titled 'Window Paine' featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming remake of the '80s classic movie 'Footloose,' which hits screens nationwide Oct. 14.
