Heavy metal's back! Comedic hair metal gurus Steel Panther tore through New York City last night (Jan. 4) in a firestorm of lace and debauchery. Although their show is comedic, their talent is very real, and they made the fact well known to the sold out NYC crowd.

Steel Panther fans are passionate for their hair metal heroes. As the crew began to set up the band's gear, NYC's Irving Plaza kept the crowd happy by playing some of heavy metal's most legendary tracks. However, a scene we've never witnessed before began to unfold. As Black Sabbath's 'Iron Man,' blasted through the speakers, the fans actually began chanting 'Steel Pan-ther!' OVER the classic Sabbath song. Insane.

The sunset strip natives started their set strong with 'Supersonic Sex Machine' from their 2011 release, 'Balls Out.' It wasn't long before the band exchanged hilarious banter while female audience members began to grind up against the band onstage and whip out certain body parts from their shirts. The atmosphere of a stereotypical Sunset Strip hair metal show was so believable, it wouldn't have been surprising to learn that the security guards missed the joke entirely.

Vocalist Michael Starr wailed fan favorites such as 'Eyes of a Panther' and 'Death to All but Metal' with sharp falsettos that would make Vince Neil wish he was back in the '80s. Guitarist Satchel proved that he is legitimately one of metal's best guitarists throughout the hour-and-a-half long set, including a blistering guitar medley tied together with songs from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and even a six-string re-imagining of 'Flight of the Bumblebee.'

Bassist Lexxi Foxx used enough hairspray onstage to completely reverse any progress Al Gore has made to save the environment and drummer Stix Zadinia even played the keyboard for the power ballad 'Weenie Ride.' Satchel delivered a great one-liner, saying, "This is the first time Stix has played a musical instrument."

The setlist was perfect, the band was hilarious and on-point and there's just something magical about a sold-out crowd swaying their arms back and forth singing Weenie weenie weenie weenie weenie weenie weenie ride.
