Mastodon have been one of the most dominant metal acts of the 2000s. Treading a thin line between being underground heroes and mainstream darlings, Mastodon have been able to intrigue music fans from all walks of life. 'Dry Bone Valley' is the third single from Mastodon's critically acclaimed and Grammy nominated album 'The Hunter.'

How did Mastodon end up scoring noted "lowbrow" pop-surrealist artist Tim Biskup to direct the video for 'Dry Bone Valley,' the latest single off their 'The Hunter' album? It turns out that not only is he a good buddy of the band's, but his artwork is highly regarded in camp Mastodon. "Tim is an old friend of ours and one of my favorite artists," says Mastodon's Brann Dailor. "The opportunity to work with him was unique and very special for us."
Mastodon have unleashed a video for 'Dry Bone Valley,' the second official single off their fifth album, last year's 'The Hunter.' The video was directed by Tim Biskup, a visual artist best known for his work in the so-called lowbrow pop-surrealist genre who has mostly worked with the silkscreening and textile production.
Mastodon and indie pop goddess Feist announced late last year that they would be partnering in an unusual fashion for the annual independent retail extravaganza known as Record Store Day. Each act will cover one of the other's songs. Since Mastodon traffic in fuzzed out and forward-thinking hard rock and Feist camps out in the pop world, it's an eyebrow-raising endeavor in theory. But we have high hopes for the execution.
It's official! The nominees have been announced for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, with Mastodon, Megadeth, Dream Theater and the Foo Fighters capturing nominations for the newly formed Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category - which combines the old Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance categories.
Mastodon and Feist, together at last? Consider it one of the more intriguing collaborations in recent memory. The Southern metal mavens and the Canadian indie-pop chanteuse reportedly are looking to team up for a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single that will feature each artist covering a song by the other artist, with the results being available on Record Store Day 2012, set for April 21.
