In This Moment

When In This Moment took their baby musical steps in 2005, metalcore was all the rage, but the group fronted by the talented and charismatic Maria Brink has rolled with the changes to stake their claim as one of the ‘10s most promising metal bands. Founded in Los Angeles, by Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth, In This Moment began playing local gigs and took full advantage of the internet and rising social networks like Facebook and MySpace, where they were in fact discovered by first manager and Rob Zombie/Ozzy Osbourne bassist, Rob ‘Blasko’ Nicholson, before signing to Century Media. Their 2007 debut album, ‘Beautiful Tragedy,’ found Brink and Howorth joined by rhythm guitarist Blake Bunzel, bassist Jesse Landry (later replaced Travis Johnson) and Jeff Fabb, and the quintet continued to develop their chemistry, both on tour and over ensuing releases like 2008’s ‘The Dream’ and 2010’s ‘A Star-Crossed Wasteland.’ At the same time, Brink saw herself routinely named among heavy metal’s most beautiful women (for what that’s worth), but it was she and her bandmates’ musical abilities that obviously made 2012’s fourth album, the industrial-influenced ’Blood,’ yet another step up the ladder to mainstream success — even though Bunzel and Fabb had both been lost American Idol contestant James Durbin’s band (!) and replaced by Randy Weitzel and Tom Hane, respectively. Nevertheless, 2014 marked another quantum leap for In This Moment’s career, as they signed to Atlantic Records and released their fifth album, ‘Black Widow,’ to no small critical acclaim and the group’s first Top Ten Billboard debut.
