Dave Navarro celebrates his 45th birthday today (May 7). The six-string icon has carved out a legendary and unique career, having been a member of Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as working with artists such as Marilyn Manson, Guns N' Roses, Nine Inch Nails and even pop artists Christina Aguilera and Alanis Morissette.
If you've watched the growing proliferation of reality singing competitions on TV and wondered how the networks could possibly add one more "unique twist" to the format, the folks at 'Funny or Die' are right there with you -- and they've parodied the genre with a fake commercial for 'U B Da Judge,' a show where celebrities compete to be the next judge on a reality singing competition.
Jane’s Addiction have long been known for their provocative stage shows and frontman Perry Farrell’s unquestionable onstage charisma. That said, it should come as no surprise that Farrell says the legendary Los Angeles outfit’s upcoming “Theatre of the Escapists Tour” will take inspiration from the dramatic “Boardwalk Empire” era, complete with video mapping, "immersive theater" and -- get this -- a new character named “Bubba.”
'I am a hustler,' Perry Farrell sings in the new Jane's Addiction single, 'Undeground,' and wouldn't you know that a hustler like Perry wouldn't quite be content with the "censored" version of the video they recently unveiled for the song. Not quite wild enough, he might say. Thus Jane's are pointing you in the direction of the "explicit" version of the the clip, which has debuted over at the NSFW Internet home of Playboy magazine.
Jane's Addiction's video for the thunderous song Underground' has a cinematic and dramatic, graphic novel vibe, reminding us a bit of the visual spectacle of 'Sin City.' The band explores the seedy underbelly of life, traipsing to the underground, where you have to be a certain kind of person to survive. If you are not one of "those" types, you can certainly be a voyeur and live vicariously through this video.
Just days after they announced the cities for their upcoming tour of what they're calling "classic theatres," Jane's Addiction have revealed the dates -- and they've also lined up a sweet high-profile gig at Volkswagen's pre-Super Bowl Rock & Roll Fan Tailgate Party on Feb. 5, where they'll be appearing with the Roots and DJ Pete Wentz.
With a new album, 'The Great Escape Artist,' out for a few months and their latest single, 'Underground,' buzzing at radio, Jane's Addiction are ready to return to the road for their first dates of 2012 -- and this time, one of rock's most theatrical acts is adding a suitably theatrical twist: the band will be stopping at "classic theatres" during a run of dates that will see them playing intimate venues across the country.
