It's official! The nominees have been announced for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, with Mastodon, Megadeth, Dream Theater and the Foo Fighters capturing nominations for the newly formed Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category - which combines the old Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance categories.
Mastodon and Feist, together at last? Consider it one of the more intriguing collaborations in recent memory. The Southern metal mavens and the Canadian indie-pop chanteuse reportedly are looking to team up for a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single that will feature each artist covering a song by the other artist, with the results being available on Record Store Day 2012, set for April 21.
Mastodon's Troy Sanders on 'The Hunter'
Why do you need to tune into 'Last Call With Carson Daly' on Tuesday, Nov. 15? Because Mastodon will perform both 'Curl of the Burl' and 'Black Tongue' on the late night TV program. The show airs on NBC affiliates at 1:35 AM ET, so be a night owl on Tuesday night and watch it. You won't be disappointed, especially since it's a two-fer.
Mastodon recently kicked off a North American fall tour in support their epic new album, 'The Hunter,' and one song you can expect to hear on a nightly basis is 'Curl of the Burl,' the disc's current single. It's powerhouse rock number with a catchy chorus bound to get ingrained in your mind, but its enigmatic title does beg the question: what the hell is a burl -- and why would it curl?
The recent love affair between cartoons and metal has been a passionate one. The seemingly separate worlds most notably collided in 2006 in the animated series 'Metalocalypse,' which went on to become a worldwide phenomenon and a staple show for Cartoon Network. It seems like the metal gods are far from finished with the cartoon world, as Mastodon bassist-vocalist Troy Sanders recently revealed that the progressive metal band and 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' have decided to team up for what is sure to be a brutally funny collaboration.
