The music world was shocked over the holidays when Rigor Mortis and Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia died after collapsing onstage during a performance in Texas. The musician was performing with Rigor Mortis, which is fronted by singer Bruce Corbitt (picured right, above). The vocalist, who is returning to rock with Warbeast on tour this month, says both his band and the trek's headliners Down intend on dedicating the entire run to Scaccia's memory.

The metal community lost an essential piece of its foundation in the early morning of Dec. 23 with the death of Ministry / Rigor Mortis / Revolting Cocks guitarist Mike Scaccia. While demonstrating his shredding abilities with Rigor Mortis to celebrate the 50th birthday of vocalist Bruce Corbitt, Scaccia collapsed onstage from a heart attack, later being pronounced dead at a Dallas hospital. Perhaps needing some time to collect his thoughts, GWAR singer Dave 'Oderus Urungus' Brockie has just written a long tribute to his fallen friend.

As we reported earlier today, Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia collapsed onstage last night (Dec. 22) while playing with his other band Rigor Mortis and passed away at the age of 47 shortly thereafter. Ministry and Rigor Mortis guitarist Mike Scaccia has died at the age of 47 after collapsing onstage at a performance in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday night (Dec. 22). The musician had been performing with thrash metal veterans Rigor Mortis at the Rail Club when he suddenly fell to the ground after suffering a heart attack. Classic Rock magazine reports that one of the band's members returned to the address the crowd, stating only, "It doesn't look good." Scaccia was rushed to the hospital, but passed away soon after.
