One of 2012's best tours stopped by New York City on Wednesday (April 11), with Mastodon, Opeth and Ghost delivering a unique blend of atmospheric and hypnotic metal courtesy of the Heritage Hunter trek.
We recently had the honor of speaking with Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt. Although Akerfeldt is most-renowned for his work in Opeth, the Swedish metal legend has also scrambled brains with death metal side project Bloodbath. However, during our interview yesterday in New York City, Akerfeldt revealed that he is no longer a member of Bloodbath.
The new collaboration between Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt and Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson, Storm Corrosion, feels like it may have been masterminded by the fateful hands of the musical Gods. The two unlikely collaborators found each other through such happenstance that it raises the question that a higher power may have been hard at work behind the scenes on this one.
It was recently reported that Opeth, Mastodon and Ghost intended to join forces for one of the most anticipated North American tours of 2012. After a few weeks of suspense and a ton of buzz throughout the metal populace, the official tour dates have been announced.
Up until now it’s been strictly rumor that Mastodon, Opeth and Ghost were teaming up for a North American tour run, but Mastodon bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders recently confirmed the upcoming jaunt.
