Throughout the past year, the surviving members of Pantera have commented on the possibility of Zakk Wylde filling in for the late Dimebag Darrell if the band were ever to reunite. While it's all been speculation thus far, singer Phil Anselmo now reveals that he recently discussed the topic with Wylde himself.
Godsmack have always been vocal about how much of an influence Pantera had on their career and so it seemed only fitting that when the 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival rolled into Pantera’s home state of Texas that the band would pay homage to them at some point during the night.
Down frontman and metal icon Philip Anselmo issued a video update while smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana. Anselmo initially issued the clip a few days ago, but the audio quality was poor and indiscernible. It has since been republished with better audio quality. Of course, Anselmo's description of the storm was peppered with eff bombs, but he provided a first-person perspective, and one that is uniquely Anselmo, of what life is like during a hurricane.
Choosing the 10 best Pantera songs is no easy feat, since there are so many good ones, full of power grooves that incite moshpits; resonant rhythms that could rattle your teeth loose from your gums; and drill sergeant vocals
Philip Anselmo is gearing up for the release of Down's upcoming 'Down IV Part I – The Purple EP' on Sept. 18, and he insists that none of the members of the NOLA sludge band put any pressure on themselves regarding the release. He also shared that while the Pantera vaults have been emptied as a result of the 20th anniversary reissues of 'Cowboys From Hell' and 'Vulgar Display of Power,' he did reveal that some interesting cover songs still exist somewhere and if the right amount of digging is done, they could be unearthed.
