In between their Soundwave Festival performances in February and March, System of a Down also played a few headlining shows in Australia.The recent show on Feb. 29 in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena turned into a star-studded event.
Scars on Broadway, the band featuring System of a Down singer-guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan, are working on new material. The group recently unleashed a short clip of a new song titled ‘Guns Are Loaded.’
Ever since the official announcement that System of a Down had reunited in late 2010, fans of the band have been foaming at the mouth for a taste of new material. The possibility of a new System album has just become very real after drummer John Dolmayan claimed, "It's going to happen" during an interview at the 2011 Rock in Rio Festival.
Last night (Oct. 2), System of a Down invaded the 2011 Rock in Rio Festival in Brazil, playing a near two-hour set in front of hundreds of thousands of eager fans. The 28-song setlist encompassed System's entire career from their self-titled debut album to the 'Mesmerize'/'Hypnotize' era.
During System of a Down's hiatus, frontman Serj Tankian embarked on what was to be a very successful solo career. Although System of a Down re-formed last year and have even started to tour again, Tankian remains committed to his solo work and is in the process of creating his third full-length album. Tankian has also remained closely connected to his fans via his Facebook page, where he has been giving them the latest on his progress in the studio.
On Sept. 4, 2001, System of a Down unleashed their sophomore album, 'Toxicity.' The disc, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, took the hard-rock and metal worlds by storm with a tour de force of explosive songs, including the singles 'Chop Suey!,' 'Toxicity' and 'Aerials
