The Mongolian folk metal band Tengger Cavalry have a soft spot for Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne, recording covers versions of not one, but two of her songs. Check out the video for "My Happy Ending" above and "Sk8er Boi" below.

The pop punk anthems are given a different spin with heavy guitar, traditional instruments and Nature Ganganbaigal's vocals.

Ganganbaigal talked about the decision to cover Lavigne, particularly "Happy Ending." "Recording this track was one of the weirdest ideas I have ever had," he says. "Generally, I find that the metal community dislikes pop stuff a lot, but Avril, she does have some good hooks!"

Ganganbaigal continues, ""My Happy Ending" has some cool leads and I figured I could spin it around with some Morin Khuur and Mongolian fiddle. I also wanted to use this opportunity to experiment a bit with my clean vocal performance. But, all in all, we just did this for fun. We hope our fans like it!"

2016 was a prolific year for Tengger Calvary, as they reissued some of their earlier albums and also released multiple EPs and a live album. A new full-length is expected later this year.

In addition to several of their original tracks, Tengger Calvary have numerous other cover songs on their YouTube channel, including Judas Priest's "Painkiller," Slayer's "Angel of Death," Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" and Arch Enemy's "Nemesis."
