The Melvins Unveil Cover of Queen’s ‘You’re My Best Friend’

The Melvins are on their way back with what they're calling "an unconventional covers album" and they're giving fans a taste of the 'Everybody Loves Sausages' disc by serving up their take on the Queen classic 'You're My Best Friend.'

The band definitely puts their own stamp on the song. Tweak Bird's Caleb Benjamin lends guest vocals to the track, with the full Melvins lineup of Dale Crover, Buzz Osborne, Coady Willis and Jarred Warren backing him up. The song stays fairly true to the original poppy and bouncy version, though the band replace the keyboard sound with something a little more in line with what you might hear in 8-bit video games. 'You're My Best Friend' is featured on the 'Everybody Loves Sausages' covers album, which is due April 30. The Melvins also cover such acts as David Bowie, The Kinks, Roxy Music and Throbbing Gristle on the album. Osborne recently stated of the effort, "This record will give people a peek into the kind of things that influence us musically. We REALLY like all of these songs along with the bands who actually wrote this stuff because first and foremost, we are HUGE music fans.”
