Agalloch, purveyors of mesmerizing atmospheric blackened folk metal, suddenly disbanded earlier this year. Now without one of metal's underground torchbearers, the light has dimmed just a bit, but, as they say, the music will live on. Prior to the breakup, it was announced the band's landmark first three albums would be receiving a vinyl reissue, and now the move seems ever so sacred.

In this unboxing video, we'll take you through the exquisite packaging for this set issued from The End Records. Pale Folklore, The Mantle and Ashes Against the Grain have been repressed on colored wax, giving each album it's own distinction and identity. Each release arrives with a new layout with a massive, flip-through book filled with photos of band leader John Haughm, guitarist Don Anderson and bassist Jason Walton as well as vivid winter scenery.

Both The Mantle and Ashes Against the Grain have been remastered by Colin Marston at The Thousand Caves. Marston plays in several bands (Gorguts, Krallice, Dysrhythmia) and has been behind the boards on a number of their releases among a host of others.

Agalloch's influence has been far-reaching, first rising to prominence with the Pale Folklore debut in 1999. Hailed for their masterful marriage of lush melodies, cold atmospheres, Haughm's whisper-esque vocal rasp and gorgeous composition, the Oregon group broke new ground with each ensuing release, careful not to retrace their steps, but to continue forward down a path that was truly blazed by them and them alone.
