Warped Tour 2013 Gallery: Bring Me the Horizon, Black Veil Brides + More in Pomona, California
What would summer be without the Vans Warped Tour? The moveable city (featuring literally hundreds of band buses and vans) landed in Pomona, Calif., recently for a rare back-to-back two-day stint, and Loudwire was there to capture the 2013 edition of the iconic festival.
Now in it's 19th season, this year the rugged and ragged musical caravan birthed by Kevin Lyman features fewer big names and more young up and comers – particularly bands that have graduated to main stages after previous Warped runs.
Several of the featured main-stagers that have worked their way up the ranks include Sleeping With Sirens and a new-look Black Veil Brides, but as usual at Warped, the trick is to play the musical field by wandering the makeshift musical village in search of the next big thing.
Some things never change, like kids racing in about 11AM to plan their day around the giant inflatable performance schedule, snaking lines of black-clad teens at many of the merch booth band signings, gallons of energy drinks being guzzled, hundreds of uninhibited crowd surfers and numerous walls of death in front of the stages.
But this year the decision to book newer, younger acts definitely gave the day-into-night a more intense energy. I See Stars, the Black Dahlia Murder and Bring Me the Horizon in particular brought it hard in the blazing sun, and the kids ate it up.
