Watain Pummel Eardrums With ‘The Wild Hunt’ Listening Party at Duff’s in Brooklyn

There’s no better way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn than blasting some serious metal. In an intimate gathering, right below a daycare center which was having a birthday party, metal heads relaxed in their dark metal haven that is Duff’s bar while listening to Watain’s forthcoming album ‘The Wild Hunt,’ due out Aug. 20 via Century Media.

Frontman Erik Danielsson was in attendance, introducing the album while greeting and mingling with attendees during the listening-party event.

The album begins with a hauntingly beautiful instrumental tune titled ‘Night Vision.’ The first verse of the album in the song ‘De Profundis’ begins “Open! Ye crypt of woe / Ye depths of death / Where haunts the siren’s wail / Maddening and deafening /  Open! Your hearts and you might hear it too / Preganant with nightmares beckoning you.” Watain have opened a crypt of death metal with ‘The Wild Hunt’ and it won’t be closing any time soon.

No doubt Duff’s made the perfect setting for listening to ‘The Wild Hunt’ and when we asked Danielsson about why he chose to have the get together in Brooklyn, he stated, “We were going to do it in New York, we knew that much. This place, Jimmy [Duff] the owner he picked us up from the airport on our first U.S. tour, the first time we were here. He picked us up and drove us straight to his bar and since then this place has just felt like home.

Danielsson sincerely adds, “You feel really welcome, Jimmy really makes us feel that it’s our place, too, I feel relaxed here. Music like this it deserves a special setting.”

To say the least, Watain fans will be incredibly satisfied with this new release — especially with its deep and chaotic riffs, pummeling drum patterns, and vocals that spit absolute venom. The record has a certain poignant and rich darkness to it and even though the listening party took place at 1PM on a sunny Saturday, the music itself transports you to a different time, place and frame of mind.

Stay tuned for our full interview with Watain frontman Erik Danielsson.
