The music world suffered a shock this past week when Sanctuary and Nevermore vocalist Warrel Dane passed away at the age of 56. The singer had been promoting a solo album titled Shadow Work at the time of his death, and had recently ventured to Brazil for performances.

Back on Nov. 30, Dane made his final television performance, appearing on Brazilian show Sonoridades performing alongside guitarists Johnny Moraes and Thiago Oliveira. You can watch the stripped back performance in the player above as well as some of the interview.

It was Moraes who revealed that Dane had passed earlier in the week. "He died in the night, he had a heart attack. He was in the flat where he stayed for the recording of the album when it happened. I got to do cardiac massage, we called the SAMU (Brazilian ambulance) who arrived very fast, but when they arrived he was already dead,” the guitarist told UOL.

Moraes continues, "His health was already very weak because of his diabetes and his problems with alcoholism. He was already facing a lot of health problems … The record was almost finished and we started to record the voice. The musicians are already thinking about how to use the material for a posthumous tribute. Maybe we can count on guests, but there's nothing official yet.”

A number of Dane's bandmates and peers offered their thoughts via social media.
