German deathcore and experimental group We Butter the Bread With Butter graced New York City with their presence for the first time earlier this week at the Studio in Webster Hall.  Support included Boston based band Lions Lions and Virginia metalcore act Honour Crest.

Last year, the group was supposed to play New York City but ran into some visa issues but this time nothing stopped these gentlemen from taking the city by storm. They are currently touring in support of their brand new album ‘Goldkinder’ (which means Gold Children) and the band is as vibrant and adventurous as the disc's title.

The experience with these German lads began with a very funny soundcheck earlier in the day, which was partially in German and partially in English. The keyboards and programming were called “magic sounds” (rightfully so). Judging from the soundcheck itself the show was bound to be a fun and compelling one.

We Butter the Bread With Butter have played massive stages in Europe and large festivals such as Wacken in Germany. For a band of this stature to play an intimate setting like the Studio is nothing short of mindblowing. The show was part metal show / part dance party and whether you knew German or not the common word of the night was “jump” and fans surely did.

The band kicked off their set with a new track and personal favorite, 'Pyroman & Astronaut.' They played numerous other new tunes from 'Goldkinder' including 'Das Uhwerk,' 'Meine Brille,' 'Mayday Mayday,' 'Ohne Herz' and 'Alles Was Ich Will.'

Frontman Paul Bartzsch displays a certain innocence with his boyish good looks but the venom he spews with his gutturals is nothing short of fierce. This force had a profound effect on the intensity of the mosh pit which stayed strong throughout the night. With this being the band’s very first New York show ever, it was evident the crowd was ravenous to finally see them live.

The momentum was never ending even as their set ended with older favorites 'World of Warcraft' and 'Extrem' off of their 2008 debut album 'Das Monster aus dem Schrank.'The band as a whole performs with fearlessness and limitless power. They have an explosive stage presence combined with lighting that influences the emotion behind the music.

They have found an innovative balance between Rammstein-like aggression mixed with a dreamy and wistful ambiance similar to Muse. It’s no surprise why We Butter the Bread With Butter have such an immense following in Europe. When they come to town they are not to be missed.
