While in a barn at the Rock'N Derby Festival, the very cool and laid back frontman of Wolfmother, Andrew Stockdale, played a quick game of ‘Would You Rather?’ with us. Find out just why he enjoys being on the road much more than being in the studio, his ideals on respect between bands on tour and his preference on touring vehicles. Check out our latest installment of ‘Would You Rather?’ with Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother below:

Would you rather be really late for a show or mess up onstage?

Mess up onstage because you don’t want to waste people’s time.  With mistakes, people just want to see you having fun and if you beat yourself up too much over a mistake then it ruins the show or experience for yourself and the audience.

Would you rather be in the studio or on tour?

On tour, I like the energy of the people, I like performing. The studio isn’t really my thing. I don’t even have a value on production as much as other people do. I think if you really care a lot about production then you love it. For me if it’s a good song then it’s a good song, if someone captures it in an average sense or really good sense then it’s still a good song. I don’t think I need to spend four days tweaking things.

Would you rather tour with a band you didn’t respect or tour with a band that didn’t respect you?

Oh God, I wouldn’t allow myself to be in either of those situations. [Laughs] I’ve been asked to make compromises and use bands that have a song on the radio to sell tickets and I’d never do that. I'd just rather have a band that I like and not worry about ticket sales. I guess we probably have had bands that might not respect us but you kind of earn their respect, maybe that respect is something you have to earn. But then if somebody didn’t like you or respect you and they didn’t like what you did then you kind of wonder then why would you be there? I guess they think, “Oh we’re going to get their fanbase or do that” but I don’t think that works. I don’t think that intent would speak to the audience, then again that’s me, maybe I’m too idealistic. [Laughs]

Would you rather have an accordion for legs or drumsticks for hands?

Drumsticks for hands, I like keeping the rhythm.

Would you rather travel in an old clunky tour bus with no odor or a brand new shiny RV with a stench?

No odor. Sometimes I’m in the bus and people drink a lot and the smell is a combination of cat vomit and burning plastic. [Laughs] You just see people detoxing from a bottle of vodka. I would rather have fresh air.
