‘The Glamour & the Squalor’ Film Details Life of Radio DJ Who Broke Nirvana

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is one of those classic, anthemic songs that everyone knows, even those who aren't fans of rock at all. Though it was on Nirvana's second record Nevermind and the new grunge genre had already produced several albums in Seattle, this track alone is basically credited for exposing the rest of the world to this new rock revolution.

Marco Collins was a radio host in Seattle who was determined to introduce listeners to something new. He was the first radio DJ to play "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on Aug. 27, 1991, and is known for having also broke bands such as Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Prodigy and more to mainstream rock radio.

The Glamour & the Squalor is a documentary that details Collins' life as a gay rock radio host, a die-hard music fan and a victim of the rock 'n' roll party scene in Seattle. The film features prominent rock figures from the '90s rock scene including Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, Garbage's Shirley Manson, music personality and rock connoisseur Matt Pinfield and more.
