From Ashes to New Return With Revamped Lineup, New Song ‘Crazy’
From Ashes to New broke out big in 2016, but it's been a bumpy journey to the band's second album. After switching out two members, the group is back for their sophomore set The Future, and they've just unleashed a new lyric video for the first single "Crazy."
Returning for the band is rapper/programmer Matt Brandyberry and guitarist Lance Dowdle, and the pair are joined by new vocalist Danny Case and drummer Mat Madiro. Speaking about the lineup change, Brandyberry stated, "Pretty much anything that could go wrong to try and slow down the process and throw you a curveball happened during the last year since we came off the road, but we came out on the other side. I was in a very down mind frame because of what was happening with the other members leaving and the anxiety made it difficult to write at times but ultimately I found the right people to come together and we decided we were going to write the best music we possibly could and see where that took us."
"Crazy" comes from new vocalist Danny Case, who says of the track, “'Crazy' is, at its core, a song about someone or something driving you absolutely out of your mind and feeling unable to walk away from it. I feel like everyone at one point or another experiences that in their lives."
He continues, "For me personally, I dated someone for a very short period of time and it felt like everything I said and did was wrong. I honestly thought I was losing my mind because I knew it was a bad situation, but I just felt like I couldn’t walk away. I think having that life experience really helped when we sat down and wrote the lyrics.”
The anthemic new rocker came together at Atrium Studios with producers Grant McFarland and Carson Slovak. The song was mixed by Josh Wilbur. "Crazy" will be on The Future album, which is due April 20.
From Ashes to New are just starting to promote the new album by hitting the road with 10 Years. They'll play in Portland, Ore. tomorrow night (Feb. 2), with a brief run keeping them busy through Feb. 11. You can also look for them playing Carolina Rebellion and Rock on the Range in May.
