Current Dream Theater stickman Mike Mangini scored a victory over Opeth player Martin Lopez to advance in Round 1 of our Greatest Metal Drummer competition. Could we see Mangini facing off against former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy in the future? For that to happen, Mangini will have to defeat an extremely talented drummer in this Round 2 battle.

Tool drummer Danny Carey has to be among the favorites to win this whole competition. The stylistic complexity of Carey's drumming has helped bring Tool to astronomical success and critical acclaim. Carey is a truly unique individual behind a kit, which helped propel him to a win against immensely talented Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor in Round 1. We now have a progressive battle on our hands as Carey takes on Mangini in Round 2.
