Dec. 8, 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of Pantera / Damageplan guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott‘s tragic death. In remembrance of the guitar great, we’ve spoken to rock and metal’s greatest musicians to gather stories and testimonies of admiration towards the immortal shredder.

In the video above, Alter Bridge / Slash vocalist Myles Kennedy reflects on the influence Pantera had on him. While he never met Dimebag Darrell, Kennedy was definitely a fan and feels that Pantera ushered in a new kind of metal.

The vocalist recalls his introduction to the band, catching a video on MTV's 'Headbangers Ball.' "It was so heavy," says Kennedy. "There was a certain groove to it and when he took his lead I was blown away by his feel." Kennedy says Darrell's style was not like anyone else, referring to it as "Billy Gibbons on steroids."
