Canadian metal band the Agonist have carved themselves a place into heavy music with their theatrical brand of metalcore mixed with melodic death metal. The band is set to release its third album, 'Prisoners,' on June 5, but we've got the exclusive stream of the new disc here on Loudwire.

The Agonist made a name for themselves in the metal scene with their first two albums -- 2007's 'Once Only Imagined' and 2009's 'Lullabies for the Dormant Mind.' We recently spoke with Agonist frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz about 'Prisoners,' including topics such as the significance of the album's title. "It just seemed like a fitting title," says White-Gluz. "I just sort of browsed through all the lyrics and picked out words that stood out to me. That just seemed like a fitting title based on the feel of the album."

The wailing frontwoman also spoke of the impact that new guitarist Pascal 'Paco' Jobin brought to the record. "We have some songs on there that he actually wrote and he also wrote leads over the top of a lot of Danny [Marino's] riffs," says White-Gluz. "So he has a different style of guitar playing. Danny is sort of feel-oriented and Paco is more of a shredder, so we have that aspect in the music now."

'Prisoners' showcases the Agonist getting more comfortable and solid in their sound. The album is a very natural progression for the Agonist, who once again embraced the more theatrical aspects of their music. If you're a fan of the Agonist, 'Prisoners' will not disappoint.
