In the late '70s/early '80s, Van Halen took the rock world by storm. Eddie Van Halen was dubbed the next guitar great, while David Lee Roth proved to be one of the best showmen and entertainers in rock history. Add in the powerful drumming of Alex Van Halen and some great bass licks and backing vocals from Michael Anthony and Van Halen quickly made their mark.

The band's 1978 self-titled debut got the ball rolling as Roth's vocals powered 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love' and 'Running With the Devil.' The band reconfigured The Kinks' 'You Really Got Me' into a heavy rocker and songs like 'Eruption,' 'Janie's Cryin'' and 'Ice Cream Man,' made the 'Van Halen' disc one of the best full-album listens of the era.
