Billie Joe Armstrong has been one of punk rock’s most charismatic frontmen for well over two decades, so we’ve put together 10 of the Green Day legend’s most unforgettable moments.

You may not know this, but Billie Joe has been making music since the age of five. This first pressed recording was a song called “Look for Love” with the rock star-to-be singing and even touring off the record, playing in a band with his father before he passed away.

At Woodstock 1994, Green Day’s performance turned out to be the most iconic thanks to a gigantic mud fight between the festival crowd and the band. The band’s set even ended after Billie Joe asked fans to scream “shut the f—k up” at the top of their lungs. Billie Joe pulled his pants down in front of the crowd, just like he did the very next year while performing in Milwaukee. The only difference was Armstrong got arrested in Milwaukee, which he recounted during a 1995 interview.

In more recent times, Billie Joe made national headlines after a meltdown at the 2012 iHeartRadio festival, where Billie cursed out organizers for cutting Green Day’s time short. There was plenty of drunken and drugged-up banter even before Armstrong cut “Basket Case” short, which you may have never even seen before. We added some of that footage to our Loud List, including a bizarre rant on boxer Julio Caesar Chavez and “some f—kin’ some motherf—ker from f—kin’ Argentina.”
