It was recently announced that All That Remains would be hitting the road with Dethklok, Machine Head and Black Dahlia Murder for a massive fall tour. Before this trek, ATR will play Rock Vegas with numerous heavy-hitting hard rock acts such as Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Shinedown, Godsmack and Staind. The two-day event takes place Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29.

We recently caught up with All That Remains guitarist Mike Martin, and he spoke about his enthusiasm to be part of the Rock Vegas bill as well as his regrets in the city of sin. He also dishes on his gambling experiences and what cures him of a brutal hangover in the morning.

For Rock Vegas, you guys are part of an incredible lineup Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Manson, Shinedown and so many others, how does it feel to be part of this event?

It’s pretty cool – it’s the first time for us, it should be pretty awesome. I remember seeing the lineup last year and I was like “Wow I want to play that.” We started the Five Finger Death Punch tour last year but it’s pretty cool this year to actually do it.

What are you looking forward to most about this massive event?

Well I’m just assuming it’s going to be the regular festival atmosphere, everything seems a little more jacked up and fun in Vegas. With the vibe over there in Vegas – you feel like you’re obligated to have more fun, I think everyone tries a little harder. [Laughs] I’m sure it’s going to be the usual long, hot day for everybody – people being carried out on stretchers and dehydration, there will probably be alcohol, too.

It’s in Vegas after all! How much do you feel that a location impacts a band’s performance.

It definitely depends on the city sometimes, it also depends on the day of the week it’s on. If you’re in Vegas on a Friday or Saturday you’re definitely going to get a way different vibe than Odessa, Texas on a Tuesday. [Laughs] But Vegas – I don’t think the day matters so much once you’re there, everyone’s on vacation.

Have you ever done anything you highly regret in the city of sin?

Nothing that’s super interesting that would make a good story. If we’re doing a headlining tour, we try to book a day off after the Vegas show just so we can have a day to hang out there. I’ve just don’t the typical thing – us, the crew and the band, go somewhere and you drink way too much and I throw up in my hotel room all night as far as regret that’s about it. As soon as I gamble – as soon as I lose about fifty dollars, I’m over it. I can’t stand losing money that quickly. [Laughs] I’m so bad at it, it’s unbelievable. Me and my girlfriend went there for her birthday to go to the Motley Crue residency and we went gambling for maybe an hour, we lost so much money so quickly. It was disheartening.

You spoke about the heavy drinking that obviously goes in Vegas; what’s your best hangover remedy?

Usually Wendy’s and Vitamin Water. [Laughs] Well if I can find a gym, too – I’m a big workout guy, if I can find a gym and go and suck it up and sweat it all out of me that works too. For some reason, there’s something about the greasiness of Wendy’s – when I feel like garbage I just eat that and I feel better. [Laughs] The Vitamin Water is for before bed, you drink one or two of those before you go to sleep to try and reduce the mess in the morning.

Rock Vegas takes place Sept. 28 and 29 at the Mandalay Bay Resort. To purchase two-day or single-day tickets to the event, click here.
