Slayer's Final World Tour announcement took many by surprise, including some of those involved in it. During a chat with Detroit's WRIF Meltdown, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian revealed that even though his band was part of the package announced, he didn't know for sure it was a "farewell" run until it was revealed publicly.

As for his thoughts on the finality of the upcoming run, Ian states that it was probably a tough decision to make, but that he's behind what they're doing. "You know what? All the best things have a great ending, whether it's a book, a movie, a TV series," says the guitarist. "If you don't stick the ending, it's almost like what was the point in the first place? And I like the way they're doing this and I really think they're gonna go out in a big way and really stick the ending."

Slayer's farewell tour kicks off May 10 at San Diego's Valley View Casino Center and the first leg wraps June 20 in Austin, Texas. See the dates for the run here and check out more of Scott Ian's appearance on Meltdown by downloading the podcast here.
