2013 may be winding down, but things are as busy as ever for the guys in Avenged Sevenfold. Frontman M. Shadows just checked in with fans online and revealed that they will also soon release their ‘Hail to the King’ animated series and mobile game.
As for the new series, Shadows states, “We did [it] with Machinima and Jon Schnepp. You may know Jon from his work on ‘Metalocalypse’ on Adult Swim. It’s funny stuff and it was an honor to work with him.” The trailer for the series can be seen above and you can look for the ‘Hail to the King’ series debuting Dec. 15. Shadows also added that the series also serves as a backstory for their mobile game, ‘Hail to the King: Deathbat.’ “We felt this was the best way to tell the story and give you all an idea about the type of game we are creating,” said the singer.
Speaking about the game, Shadows added that he came up with the idea about two years ago after being on the road and noticing everyone on their phones and iPads playing different games. But rather than do a music game that they didn’t feel passionate about, the band brainstormed and came up with something inspired by some of their favorite games.
He adds, “We came up with the idea of turning some of our songs and art work into a living, breathing, evil world. We wanted to bring the story of the Deathbat to life and allow you to control its destiny. While the game stands on its own in terms of the story and game play, we still wanted to add in some extras for our fans. In the game you can unlock 16 pieces of never seen before artwork from all of our albums. There will also be seven new Cam Rackam paintings available in the game.” As if that weren’t enough, the band also recorded seven new songs that serve as themes for each level of the game. The trailer for the game will be released on Dec. 15 coinciding with the animated series debut.
As for the band’s music, Shadows confirmed that the booking of new tour dates is under way. So far, Download, Graspop Metal Meeting, the Nova Rock Festival and Aerodome are among the stops already announced with more shows coming. Plus, early in the 2014, the band will head Down Under to play the Soundwave Festival. Keep an eye out for more dates being announced in the near future.
