Since the Grammys returned to the practice of early morning nomination announcements, it's led to some awesome wake-up calls for musicians. Such was the case for Baroness who learned of their Grammy nomination for "Shock Me" in the Best Metal Performance category early in the morning while on tour.

Frontman John Baizley says, “What a surreal morning it has been. I was wakened at 5AM by a massive influx of messages and emails, after two days without sleep, on tour in New Zealand and Australia to find out ‘Shock Me’ has been nominated for a Grammy."

He continues, "I’m astounded that this happened, and psyched to see that our friends in Gojira are present on the list as well. It’s been an overwhelming year, touring this record, and I’m extremely proud of my friends/bandmates and the whole Baroness family for the dedication and sacrifice that it took to write, record, and release Purple. Thank you, whoever you are that considered us for the nomination."

The Purple album was released in December of 2015, but did fall within the eligibility period for a Grammy, as did the single "Shock Me." The Purple disc came in at No. 9 on Loudwire's Best Rock Albums of 2015 list.

As Baizley stated, the band is currently on tour in Australia. Their remaining 2016 dates can be seen below.
