Billie Joe Armstrong has confirmed that he is writing new Green Day music. The frontman revealed the news in a comment on a recent Instagram Live video. You can see a screenshot of the comment from a Green Day fan account below.

Green Day's most recent studio album, Revolution Radio, was released in 2016. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart with 95,000 total units sold.

In other Green Day news, Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten recently put the band on blast during an interview with the New York Times. "It is embarrassing, really," he said of punk bands with "spiky haircuts, trying to keep 1978 alive."

He continued, "How many bands are out there like Green Day now? I look at them, and I just have to laugh. They’re coat hangers, you know. A turgid version of something that doesn’t actually belong to them.”

He went on to say that punk has become a "caricature" of its former self, and a "perfect backdrop to sell a pair of sneakers."
