U.K. metalcore stalwarts Bring Me the Horizon have been promoting their latest release, ‘Sempiternal,’ for the better part of 2013 and have just unleashed a video for the single ‘Go to Hell, for Heaven’s Sake.’
The song itself is a balance of softer moments and higher energy moments like the hook-laden chorus. Atmospheric synthesizers provide a somber atmosphere to the edgier lyrics that deal with loss and angst.
As for the video, mixes clips of the band playing in a chapel and with scenes that provide contextual imagery that support singer Oli Sykes’ lyrics. Some of the clips include empty swings swaying back and forth, a pin piercing a voodoo doll, religious symbols, and a raven sitting on a tree branch. The band gives it their all in their performance, which mirrors their intensity onstage. Sykes is especially animated, screaming into the microphone and making sweeping arm movements and gestures to reflect his lyrics.
Fans were able to catch Bring Me the Horizon’s electric live show on the main stage at the 2013 Warped Tour, which took the band all over North America for almost two months. They shared the stage with numerous acts including August Burns Red, the Black Dahlia Murder and We Came as Romans.
‘Sempiternal’ debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 album chart in April, but there’s more than just that. Bring Me the Horizon received four nominations at the 2013 Kerrang! Awards for Best Single, Best Album, Best British Band, and Best Video, taking home the prize for Best British Band.
