Couple Gets Engaged Onstage at Avenged Sevenfold’s Denver Mayhem Festival Stop
Love … and rock … is in the air this summer. Fresh on the heels of a couple getting engaged at a Machine Head show comes another rock ‘n’ roll wedding proposal, this time taking place at the Rockstar Energy Drink’s Mayhem Festival stop at the Denver area Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
As you can expect, a wedding proposal is a headliner kind of event, so it made perfect sense for Beau Barkley to propose to his girlfriend Micah Manzanarez during Avenged Sevenfold‘s headlining set. Barkley arranged for Manzanarez to watch the band from the side of the stage and the band gladly took part in the ruse that led to the surprise proposal.
Frontman M. Shadows told the Denver-area crowd that they wanted to try something different, then chose Manzanarez as his special volunteer from the side of the stage. He brought her out in front of the crowd, then put his hands around her eyes where she couldn’t see while Barkley quietly crept out onstage. After pumping up the crowd a little bit and taking a knee, Barkley signaled Shadows who removed his hands from Manzanarez’s eyes where she saw her longtime love with a ring asking for her hand in marriage.
Barkley, who has worked with Rockstar Energy Drink in Promotions and Marketing for their festival tours, posted on his Facebook page, “After all the hell I have put [Micah] through the last few years, I had to do something big to make up for it. This was a gift from my tour family and myself for all the lonely times I have put her through.”
He went on to add, “This took a lot of help from a bunch of people to make this happen. I have toured with most of these people for years and don’t just consider them friends. They are my family. I cannot thank these people enough for helping me with this.”
