Five years after Disturbed unleash their album Asylum, and four years after they went on hiatus, the band is back with a new album, Immortalized, and plans for a 2016 North American tour. We recently had singer David Draiman in our studio, and the frontman discussed the band’s return, the Immortalized album and his thoughts on the state of rock.

Last year, KISS singer-bassist Gene Simmons declared that “rock is dead,” and we asked Draiman if hearing something like that motivated Disturbed to regroup. “Nothing made the timing right other than us having the desire to come back,” said Draiman, who went on to offer his opinion of Simmons’ statement. You’ll want to watch the video above to see his strong viewpoint on that topic.

Draiman also talked about the single “The Vengeful One” as well as the track “The Light,” two contrasting songs on the album in terms of their lyrical content. He also discussed the importance of having the members of the band in the same room when writing the music for Immortalized.

Check out our conversation with David Draiman in the video above, and stay tuned for more segments from our interview with the Disturbed singer. Disturbed’s Immortalized is available at iTunes, while the bands 2016 tour dates can be seen here.
