Prog metal favorites Dream Theater have revealed some key details of their forthcoming album, including the release date and title. The effort will be a self-titled release and will drop on Sept. 24 of this year.

Guitarist John Petrucci, who also produced the disc, says of the band's 12th album, “This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that.” He continues, “We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about ‘Dream Theater’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

‘Dream Theater’ also marks another milestone for the band, as it’s the first time that drummer Mike Mangini gets to participate throughout the full creative process, contributing to the writing and the recording.

Keyboardist Jordan Rudess recently told us that Mangini’s contributions have been very instrumental in the creation of the new album. “He’s got such a rhythm math brain and that addition to what Dream Theater already has in the composition department was so cool,” explained Rudess. “Because we’ve been able to do things I’ve never done before. There’s some stuff on the album that I’ll rhythmically is very, very cool.”

‘Dream Theater’ will be available in multiple formats including special edition CD and a limited edition box set. The band has also confirmed that they will be touring in support of the new disc and encourage fans to visit their website for all the latest details.
