Duff McKagan on Classic Guns N’ Roses Reunion: ‘It Could Happen’
There have been a few flirtations over the years with various former members, but even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was not enough to get the classic Guns N' Roses lineup back together onstage. But the questions about a potential reunion still persist, and Duff McKagan, a classic member who has played with the current Guns lineup, says he would like to see a reunion happen at some point.
The bassist told WIND-FM's Hunter and Michaels morning show (as heard in the player above), "It could happen, and it could not. And I think it would be wonderful, one day, if we reconciled, first and foremost. That alone would be cool."
When asked why the initial lineup dissolved, McKagan stated, "I think every band is different, for sure. With our band, it was a lot of things. We just got really big. Once we started getting big, we got really big really fast. And there's no 'how-to' instructional manual for that thing, what happens to your life. We just fall into every kind of stupid typical thing that we thought we'd never fall into."
Interestingly enough, another former GN'R member, Slash, recently told CBS This Morning, "Never say never" about a possible reunion. He added, "I got to be careful what I say there, I mean, if everybody wanted to do it and do it for the right reasons, I think the fans would love it. I think it might be fun at some point to try and do that.”
McKagan made a surprise appearance with Guns N' Roses in 2010 when he found he was in London at the same time the band was playing in town. He also played a pair of shows in 2011 and most recently sat in for the band's current bassist Tommy Stinson on a South American tour in 2014 when Stinson exited to honor commitments to his original band, The Replacements.
McKagan is making the promotional rounds in support of his How to Be a Man (And Other Illusions) book and he also just released a three-song EP in coordination with the book's release.
