A Peace Corps teacher in Ethiopia found a teaching tool in the form of a grunge classic this past school year. In a post on Alternative Nation, Matt Westerberg explained how he used the Pearl Jam song “Even Flow” to motivate his 9th grade students to keep learning English during their English club. The technique, which started out as a joke, turned into the adorable video you can check out above.

“After class one day I jokingly wrote the chorus line to Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” on the chalkboard. I thought it would be funny to have the kids try and learn it. They laughed their way through it,” Westerberg wrote. “The next day, they demanded to try it again. After a while we went through most of the song day by day as a motivational tool. At first it was all just a joke, but after awhile, the students began to really build confidence through learning the song.”

The teacher, a self-professed huge fan of '90s rock, went on to say he started filming clips to show his friends and family, and those eventually turned into the video above. He ended his post saying that he and his fellow teachers plan on using a Foo Fighters tune as their next practice song for the upcoming school year. He says they hope to finish it in time to post a new video on singer Dave Grohl’s birthday. Grohl turns 47 on Jan. 14.
