Filter are set to unleash their new album 'The Sun Comes Out Tonight' on June 4, and we've got the exclusive premiere of the track 'Self Inflicted' (listen below).

The band has already released the song 'What Do You Say' as the disc's first single, and 'Self Inflicted' is another explosive track off the album. The tune features breathy verses that that lead into an industrial-laden chorus in which frontman Richard Patrick delivers the heavy lyrics with raw passion.

Patrick tells us the song deals with a serious subject matter, one that has unfortunately reared its ugly head in recent months again. "I wanted to try and understand the mass shooter, so I created a character, wrote the lyrics and performed it from the perspective of the shooter ... based on the psychology I read that said there was a pattern," he explains. "For example, an event like Columbine, [looking at it as if] the shooters were the victims and that somehow we or society made them do it -- that somehow they were the victims. That this was self-inflicted."

'The Sun Comes Out Tonight' drops June 4 and can be pre-ordered at iTunes. And be sure to catch Filter on the road as part of the 2013 Summerland Tour with Everclear, Live and Sponge. But first, listen to the song 'Self Inflicted' below:
