Glenn Danzig caused a stir last month when he was photographed wearing the famous Misfits skull makeup for the first time in 35 years. It was for a photo shoot promoting his upcoming covers album Skeletons that could be released as soon as next month. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Danzig has offered more details about the album, including some of the tracks he's covering.

"I had to put it out now or else there would be so many songs I'd want to do that I wouldn't be able to do it," Danzig says. "Even the way I did it, there are so many songs I still wanted to cover. My attitude with covers is, make it your own or else leave it alone."

One of the tracks Danzig covers on the album is Black Sabbath's "N.I.B." "It's one of the Sabbath songs I really liked, and the first Sabbath record is pretty groundbreaking," He explains. "I just dropped it down to a half beat, pulled all the bass out of the beginning, and it's just drums, guitar and vocals. When the chorus comes in, it's just big old bass chords and church bells."

Other songs on Skeletons include ZZ Top's "Rough Boy," Troggs' "A Girl Like You," the Litter's "Action Woman" and the Everly Brothers' "Crying in the Rain."

Danzig has also been working on an album of new material. "It's pretty much all recorded, except I keep writing extra songs so I'm gonna go back in the studio probably at the end of June," he reveals. "Some of it's very swampy and dark, some of it's ... I don't know what the right word is. It's pretty heavy though."

Danzig will be embarking on a summer tour with Pennywise and Cancer Bats beginning July 11 in Pomona, Calif. As to what the setlist will be, the singer says, "I'll play some of the cover songs and some of the old songs people want to hear and maybe play a couple of new tracks. If I can make people forget whatever they're dealing with for an hour and a half, two hours every night, that's nice."

Danzig talks more about his early punk days and other subjects in the Rolling Stone video you can watch above.
