Guns N’ Roses ‘Greatest Hits’ Leaps Into Top 5 of Billboard 200 Chart

Guns N' Roses

Just because an album was released several years ago doesn’t disqualify it from climbing up the Billboard 200 chart. That was proven recently with the untimely death of Whitney Houston and several of her releases returning to the charts.

Originally released in 2004, Guns N’ Roses‘ ‘Greatest Hits’ has also returned to the upper echelon of the Billboard 200 chart, coming in at No. 3 this week. The cause of the 600 percent plus spike wasn’t a tragedy, but a 25-cent promotion.

Both Amazon and Google Play offered a 25-cent download of the album for one day. Nearly 85,000 downloads were sold at the discount rate, making it the No. 3 best-selling album of the week, jumping from No. 31 the prior week. Guns N’ Roses only trailed boy band One Direction and pop superstar Adele, not bad for an album that came out 8 years ago.

GN’R could see another sales bump when they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14. It’s still unknown whether the band will play at the induction ceremony. In a recent interview, Slash said he has no idea what is going to happen on that day. The names of who will present each inductee were just announced, but Guns N’ Roses was conspicuously absent from the list.
