The documentary Hired Gun: Out of the Shadows, Into the Spotlight has garnered interest over the past year, putting a spotlight on session and backup musicians. After debuting at the 2016 South By Southwest Festival, the film will receive a one-night theatrical screening at several hundred theaters June 29 via Fathom Events. Tickets go on sale May 24. Check out an extended trailer above.

The film features numerous musicians such as Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Jason Hook (Five Finger Death Punch), John 5, Jason Newsted, Steve Vai, Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot), Phil X (Bon Jovi) and more.

Hook, also one of film's producers, says, "I used to watch Behind the Music, and the beauty and appeal of that show was you could peel back a layer and find out what really happens behind the scenes. That's the essence of a great documentary... it's about seeing something for the first time, or hearing stories for the first time that you weren't supposed to hear when it was happening, and that is the starting point for Hired Gun."

Director Fran Strine tells Variety, “We have been overwhelmed by the support and feedback received throughout our festival run. Hired Gun is about musicians whose DNA are all over the music and tours we love, without us knowing their faces or names. It’s a music documentary with passion and talent at its core, digging deep and ripping the curtain back to expose what it’s really like to tour and record with the legends.”

Coming up May 12, the film will be screened at North West Fest in Edmonton, Alberta. Strine and drummer Kenny Aronoff will be there and do a Q&A. For more info, go here.
