Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has revealed that Staind guitarist Mike Mushok has jumped aboard his new musical project, Newsted. The bassist himself posted a video on YouTube introducing Mushok to the world as a new member of Newsted, adding that the group's new formation is "gonna come out and kick your ass!"

Newsted, who is also a former member of the bands Voivod and Flotsam and Jetsam, released the EP 'Metal' in early 2013, but his group is currently planning to release a full-length album this year, as well. "We've got some shows coming," begins Newsted in a behind-the-scenes video, "got a new album coming … listen to metal, motherf--ker!" The video goes to to show Newsted jamming with the band's new lineup, delivering a slamming performance of 'Soldierhead,' reminiscent of old-school Metallica and Motorhead.

The bassist and new frontman also confirmed Newsted's involvement some European festival dates:

During our recent exclusive interview with Jason Newsted, the musician gave us a bit of an inside look into recording the new full-length. "Anthony Focx came in and helped us record," begins Newsted. "We just went in for a couple of weeks and did 11 songs. He’s the guy that worked on Aerosmith and the Metallica stuff for 'Guitar Hero,' so that was a big deal that he came in and helped us out and captured our thing, because he pretty much put the mics on, turned the light on and we just went for it. We were able to capture the moment, so we were lucky in that way for sure."

Stay tuned for more updates on Newsted and the band's upcoming material.
