Korn Inducted Into Guitar Center’s RockWalk – Exclusive Photos

Korn took their place at Guitar Center’s RockWalk with an induction ceremony at the store’s Hollywood, Calif., location on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the same day that their new album ‘The Paradigm Shift’ was released.

Radio personality Jim Ladd opened the ceremony by remarking, “Korn has done the seemingly impossible . . . they have made Bakersfield hip.” This was followed by an official introduction by Rob Zombie, who talked about first seeing Korn on MTV 20 years ago, and how impressed he was by their uniqueness. Zombie’s guitarist John 5 also attended the event.

Following Zombie’s introduction, Korn were brought onstage, where they added their handprints in the RockWalk cement. This was followed by a short Q&A, where Zombie started things off by asking Korn where they got their name, joking that he thought it came from the television show ‘Hee Haw.’ Singer Jonathan Davis responded that the answer wasn’t exactly “family-friendly,” and then proceeded to tell a story involving a party, a corn kernel and someone’s mouth. Their manager’s name was Larry, so when he told them they couldn’t name the band Korn, they told him, “Okay, we’re calling it Larry.” And that’s how they got the name Korn.

When asked how they felt about the induction into the RockWalk, guitarist Munky replied, “It’s an honor to be in the category with so many other great musicians and people who work really hard in this industry.”

Fellow guitarist Head was asked what it was like to be back with the guys after 8 years, and he answered, “It’s awesome, it’s like a gift that was given to me that I didn’t know I wanted or was coming.” He added, “It’s just surreal how it all worked out, you can totally tell it was meant to be, things fall into place in life and this fell into place and it’s like riding a wave. It’s really fun.”

Guitar Center’s RockWalk is dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution of rock ‘n’ roll, blues and R&B. As the newest RockWalk inductees, Korn’s handprints will reside alongside the handprints of accomplished musicians and innovators such as Eric Clapton, George Martin, Jimmy Page, Iron Maiden, Carlos Santana, Johnny Cash, Van Halen, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, B.B. King, Stevie Wonder, Run-DMC and Queen, among numerous others.

It’s fitting that Rob Zombie introduced Korn at the event as the two acts are getting set to embark on their co-headlining Night of the Living Dreads tour later this fall. Check out the details and dates here.
