The documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck gave us plenty of insight into late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain earlier this year, but director Brett Morgen reveals to Billboard that even more Cobain audio that wasn't used in the film will turn up on the corresponding soundtrack that will be released in conjunction with the DVD in early November.

According to Morgen, all of the previously unreleased music used in the film, plus a dozen additional tracks will make up the musical portion of the soundtrack. In addition, Morgen will include "audio montages that Kurt Cobain created" and recordings of the artist talking between musical tracks. One of the interlude segments will reportedly be a "sketch comedy routine featuring Kurt voicing all the characters."

Morgen was given unfettered access to the Cobain archives, listening to more than 200 hours of recordings and sifting through 107 unmarked cassettes that the singer had left behind. The director told Billboard, "[The compilation] is curated to feel as though one were sitting in Kurt's living room watching him create over the course of an afternoon."

He adds that the song demos range "from thrash to ragtime and everything in between." The tracks are reportedly Cobain in his rawest form, as Morgen states, "These are all just Kurt by himself with the guitar. These aren't multi-tracked, finished songs or work-ups, but they're extraordinary, and I think they provide tremendous insight into his creative process. I think they further our understanding of Kurt, both as a musician and as a man."

The director also revealed one more key detail -- that the interview he conducted with Dave Grohl likely won't be included on the documentary DVD release. Grohl was interviewed about Cobain after Morgen had finished the documentary and the director made the decision not to recut the film to include Grohl's interview. As for the decision not to include it on the DVD release, the director stated, "I don't think Dave Grohl is a DVD extra. I think it would be disrespectful."
