Lemmy Kilmister Statue + Lounge Unveiled at Los Angeles’ Rainbow Bar & Grill [Photos]

The centerpiece of this week of Lemmy Kilmister tributes in Los Angeles took place Wednesday night (Aug. 24) in Los Angeles, as the friends and family of the late Motorhead frontman joined fans both local and those who traveled for this special occasion just to see the brand new statue of Kilmister unveiled at his favorite L.A. hangout, the Rainbow Bar & Grill.

As expected, It was a highly attended event as fans packed the patio and spilled over into the parking lot just hoping to catch a glimpse of the ceremony as it happened. Some of the night’s key players were introduced — Todd Singerman, the Rainbow’s Maglieri family, artist Travis Moore, Lemmy’s longtime girlfriend Cheryl, his longtime boot maker Pascal and Wendy Dio, whose Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund founded by her late husband Ronnie James Dio received some of the excess money raised for the creation of the statue. With the introduction of Wendy Dio, chants of “Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie” could be heard throughout the Rainbow, with those chants eventually changing to “Lemmy, Lemmy, Lemmy.”

In the introductory remarks, it was stated, “The most important thing with this event is that it was put together by fans. It’s not a label type of thing or anything of that nature. It’s what you people did. As he has showered us with gifts all his life, now you guys are giving back to him.”

Then the microphone was handed off to Lemmy’s longtime love, Cheryl, who spoke of his love for the fans and led everyone in a toast. “The most important thing to me is that you’re all here, so I’m going to ask you to join me in this. Anyone who has a drink here, let’s raise it,” she stated, as the “Lemmy” chants resumed and the statue was eventually revealed.

While the statue was the main attraction, the back portion of the patio area by the statue includes “Lemmy’s Lounge,” where you can find a classic photo of early days Motorhead, along with Travis Moore’s hand-written plaque with the names of all of the donors for the statue in the shape of the “Ace of Spades” card. The remainder of the evening found those in attendance cycling through to take photos and selfies of themselves with the statue. Check out our photo guide from the event above.

And for those in the Los Angeles area, the Lemmy tributes conclude this evening (Aug. 25) at 8PM PT at Art on Scene at 8521 W. Sunset Blvd. with Lemmy Kilmister: A Tribute to the Master by Travis Moore. The artist responsible for overseeing the creation of the statue will be doing live art at the event, while those in attendance can also view the mini-Lemmy museum, check out some Lemmy artifacts and view and purchase Moore’s Lemmy-related artwork.
