Nearly two years ago, Mastodon invaded London’s O2 Academy to finish off a world tour. The band’s sold-out performance lured in a great mass of metal fans, who erupted for the Southern metallers from beginning to end. Thankfully, those unable to attend will be able to experience the show this holiday season, as Mastodon will unveil the audio and video editions of the gig digitally on Dec. 10.
‘Mastodon Live at Brixton’ will be a surefire stocking-stuffer this year, showcasing a 97-minute monster performance by Mastodon consisting of 23 tracks including ‘Dry Bone Valley,’ ‘Crack the Skye,’ ‘March of the Fire Ants,’ ‘Blood and Thunder’ and many others.
Separate from the video footage to be released from Mastodon’s 2012 O2 Academy gig, an audio version of ‘Mastodon Live at Brixton’ will be released on Dec. 10 as well.
Mastodon are currently scheduled to enter the studio this November to recording their highly-anticipated sixth studio album. “It’s all over the place,” drummer Brann Dailor revealed to us about the material currently being crafted for the new record. “There’s some heavy hitters and there’s some — we just really love to be surprised ourselves. If we’re surprised then we know you’ll be surprised. We just look around for that. Almost like wandering through the woods looking for I don’t know, looking for something. I don’t know what it is but you see it and go, ‘OK cool.’”
