Drumroll please....This year’s Metal Hammer Golden God has been chosen, and the winner is... Dave Mustaine. Five days before the actual U.K. award ceremony, organizers of the Metal Hammer Golden Gods have announced the big recipient of the night. Megadeth’s mainman will be given the major honor and will join the ranks of past winners like Marilyn Manson, Machine Head's Robb Flynn and Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt.

In a statement to Metal Hammer, Mustaine said, “I am truly humbled to receive this award, and to be recognized by your peers for your accomplishments, is almost as gratifying as not being recognized by the police for your accomplices.”

This accolade coincides with the 30th anniversary of Megadeth’s debut album Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good!, but that doesn’t mean the band is slowing down. This year Megadeth had to add two new members in their group, Kiko Loureiro and Lamb of God's Chris Adler, after their drummer and guitarist left. They are also currently working on a new album and planning a new tour.

While Mustaine already knows he’s a big winner, other bands still have to wait in anticipation for Monday night. Slipknot, Machine Head, Nightwish, Mastodon and Scorpions are all competing in the Best International Band category. While King 810, Beartooth, Marmozets, We Are Harlot and King Parrot all have the chance to win the Best New Band award. Some of our favorite YouTube stars are also nominated in the King/Queen of the Internet category this year. 10 Second Song Guy, Tina S., Headbanging Metal Construction Guy, cover artist Drewsif Stalin and the Vegan Black Metal Chef will all compete to take away that award.

The Metal Hammer Golden Gods will take place at London’s Indigo2 Arena on June 15.
