Megadeth vs. Mayhem – Metal Madness 2017, Round 1

Combat / Deathlike Silence
Combat / Deathlike Silence

In the Devil Horn Region of Round 1 in our March Metal Madness tournament Megadeth‘s Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good! faces off against Mayhem‘s De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Only one will advance to the next round in hopes of being named the Best Debut Metal Album of All Time!

After his infamous split with Metallica, Dave Mustaine took thrashing into his own hands (and fingers), heading up Megadeth. He displayed an overt sense of technicality and compelling songwriting across the eight tracks of Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!, bringing lead guitar playing to the forefront of the still budding thrash movement.

Mayhem have a reputation as one of metal’s most terrifying acts (inter-band murder, church burnings, suicide) and they harnessed this dark energy in sonic form on the mesmerizing De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. With new vocalist Attila Csihar added to the ranks, he brought an unnerving presence with his off-kilter vocals and schizophrenic delivery.

So which album will move on to Round 2 of March Metal Madness 2017? Vote below for either Megadeth’s Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good! or Mayhem’s De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas as the Best Debut Metal Album of all time in the poll below!

(Voting in Round 1 will end on Friday, March 17, at 10AM ET. Fans are able to vote once per hour, so keep coming back to make sure your favorite debut album advances to the next round!)
